Biography

Edward Mallett is a native Houstonian and a seventh generation Texan. He is a graduate of Lamar High School, Dartmouth College, and the University of Texas, School of Law. His jobs and scholarships paid for his complete college and law school educations. He has served as President of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, President of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers and President of the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association and, on June 17, 2016, was inducted into the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association’s Hall of Fame. Ed has served as a Special Prosecutor, appointed by the President of the State Bar of Texas. He is Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Ed is a Lamar H.S. graduate and returned to Houston after taking the Bar Examination, and has been in private practice ever since. His career in criminal defense started with court appointments. His early successes quickly led to retained cases, including serious felonies in state and federal courts. He is admitted to practice law in all courts in the State of Texas, the State of New York, many Federal Courts of Appeal and the United States Supreme Court.

Ed's academic career also includes attending the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago, ten years on the faculty of the University of Houston School of Law, fifteen years teaching at the National Criminal Defense College and more than 150 publications and presentations on criminal law to bar associations and law students throughout the United States.
